NEUROMA

painful bumps on the side of your foot

What Are Neuromas?

A neuroma, often referred to as a “pinched nerve” or a nerve tumor, is a painful condition caused by the thickening of nerve tissue. The most common type in the foot is Morton’s Neuroma, which typically develops between the third and fourth toes.

Symptoms of neuroma include burning or sharp pain in the ball of the foot, Tingling, numbness, or the sensation of having a pebble in your shoe, discomfort that worsens with tight shoes or prolonged standing.

Causes:

Wearing high heels or tight shoes.

Repetitive stress or trauma to the foot.

Structural foot issues, such as flat feet or high arches.

Treatment Options:

Non-Surgical: Orthotics, footwear modifications, limiting hard impacts, icing the area, steroid injections.

Surgical: In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the affected nerve.

The feeling of something extra inside your shoe can be annoying.

At Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic, located in the greater San Antonio area with two offices in Pleasanton and Universal City, Texas, our physicians understand your frustration and offer comprehensive solutions for neuromas in your foot. The team of doctors proudly offer education about causes and treatments of intense pain in your foot and toes.

Don’t let painful neuromas stop you from living your best life!

Neuromas

Our physicians specialize in many advanced minimally and non-invasive treatments, and if necessaryadvanced minimally invasive and traditional surgical techniques with patient proven success stories.

If your neuroma isn’t responding to non-surgical treatments, surgery may be your best option, such as:

Nerve Decompression Surgery

Decompression surgery reduces the pressure on the nerve causing pain. Decompression surgery cuts some of the ligaments near the bones.

In other cases, your medical team removes the nerve or tumor causing the pain. After your surgery, you may still have numbness, but the pain subsides.
