At Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic, Dr. Darren Silvester is proud to offer several state-of-the-art foot and ankle treatments for his patients. One of these is a minimally invasive surgery called HyProCure, and if you have foot pain from fallen arches or flat feet, it could be your best chance to eliminate the pain without requiring an invasive, traditional surgery.
Where Most Foot Pain Comes From—Misaligned Feet
Every day in our office, we hear stories from people dealing with some kind of painful foot condition—heel pain, tendonitis, bunions, etc. What most people don’t know is that these are often secondary issues—symptoms rather than causes. The real culprit is feet that are flat or misaligned and cannot distribute forces in a normal, healthy way. Treating the secondary problem alone is kind of like re-inflating a tire without fixing the leak—you might get some temporarily relief, but the core issue remains.
What do we mean by “misaligned”? In many cases, that means that the ankle joint has “slipped” a bit out of place relative to the heel bone. It doesn’t take much of a slip before you may start noticing big problems, and a misaligned foot can throw your entire body out of balance, causing not only foot pain but discomfort throughout your body, including knees, hips, and back.
How HyProCure Can Help
The HyProCure is a titanium stent, the approximate size and shape of a small screw. It may not look like much, but this little device has helped tens of thousands overcome painful and even debilitating pain.
In the procedure, the HyProCure stent is inserted into a naturally occurring space between the ankle and heel. Thanks to the unique titanium threading, the soft tissues in your foot quickly adhere to the stent naturally, with no screws or plates necessary.
Once in place, the device instantly realigns and stabilizes your hindfoot, moving your foot, ankle, hips, and knees back into proper alignment. Your weight is rebalanced into a healthy configuration, decreasing pressure on sensitive joints and putting very little pressure on the stent itself. You will also find improved range of motion in your ankle, and may even notice your arch return to a more normal shape.
Advantages Over Traditional Surgery
Traditional surgery to correct adult-acquired flatfoot or to realign the ankle often requires large incisions, plates or screws, and a lengthy recovery period. Bones, tendons, and ligaments may need to be cut, transferred, or realigned. Although surgery is usually successful and the end result will be a healthy foot, it is a major procedure and can keep you off your feet for a long time.
By contrast, minically invasive HyProCure surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that only requires a small incision. The stent is positioned in soft tissues inside a naturally occurring gap, which means no bones or tendons need to be cut or fused, and no screws or plates are required. This yields much quicker recovery times—we recommend you stay off your feet as much as possible for the first few days, but most people can get rid of the crutches after just 3-5 days, experience significant improvement in walking ability after 10 days, and can resume most activities after just 4-6 weeks with only minimal soreness. The more you can rest and stay off your feet, the quicker your recovery will be.
