We've Got Some Nerve!

Pharmaceutical Medication:Medications such as Gabapentin, Lyrica, and Cymbalta and others are used to help decrease the pain of peripheral nerve pathology.  These are very helpful adjunct to therapy but unfortunately, this is the only therapy that most physicians provide.  These are really just medications for pain.  They do nothing to help the nerves heal.  They just make him feel better while the nerves die.

Nutritional Supplementation:  There are various supplements that have been shown in clinical studies to be very effective at decreasing nerve pain.  Primarily, the supplements that seem to work use antioxidants, and reparative processes to help the nerve heal itself.  The supplements can be taken orally or injected as part of the treatment plan using other modalities or both.  Be sure to ask your doctor which supplement is the correct choice for you.

Electrical Nerve Signal Therapy: Electrical Signal Therapy (EST) using proper frequencies and specified programs has been shown to be very effective in decreasing nerve pain.  In our clinic, we have about an 85% success rate in treating chronic peripheral nerve pain and Neuropathy.  At Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic, this treatment is covered by Medicare and most commercial insurances.  The treatment is subject to copays, coinsurances and deductibles.  Nerve Decompression Surgery:In many cases, a contributing cause of peripheral nerve pain (neuropathy) is nerve compression.  This is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome in the hand.  If nerves are compressed this can be identified by good clinical exam and diagnostic injections.  Once this is identified, nerve decompression surgery can be an extremely powerful tool to alleviate peripheral nerve symptoms. Often, more than one therapy is needed to adequately provide relief and begin healing from nerve pain.  You need the right nutrition combined with the right therapy.  Most the patients at Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic that suffer from nerve pain, show a significant improvement in the quality of life and activity levels within 3 months.  Schedule your appointment at Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic today!
