What Conditions can Orthotics Help Alleviate?

“Hi, this is Dr. Silvester and I’m going to give you this as kind of a part 2 video on orthotics and what I wanted to cover in this video is, “Who Needs Orthotics? What kind of patients, what kind of symptoms respond to good mechanical control?”

The list is pretty long, but I’m going to give you some of the common conditions that we give orthotics to. The first one is heel pain on the bottom of the foot. That’s probably one of the more common complaints we have. It’s usually caused by some kind of foot mechanic dysfunction, that causes the plantar fascia ligament on the bottom of the heel to get inflamed.

The second condition that we use very frequently for orthotics is where the patient has an arthritic foot where some of the joints in the middle of the foot are painful or the big toe joint is painful, orthotics can be extremely helpful for that. The other thing that we use orthotics for is patients that have arch pain on the bottom of their foot that’s very common that we treat that with a good orthotic to control the foot and take tension off the bottom of the foot.

Other conditions are postural fatigue – we have patients that have to work on their feet long hours here in South Texas, and that can be very helpful for those patients. Other conditions are flatfoot conditions and really high arches both of those conditions can be successfully treated with the right orthotic when you order the right type of device.

So, if you have any of those conditions, there are others, that’s not an exhaustive list but that’s the most common list, if you have any of those conditions and haven’t gotten anywhere with over the counter devices or arch supports and you’re interested in exploring the possibility of an orthotic, please give us a call here at the Next Step Foot and Ankle Clinic.

Thanks for listening.”
